Further Opportunities

At Angus Centre for Performing Arts, we have found that students grow as both performers and people, given additional opportunities alongside their weekly classes. Have a read below of some of the extra opportunities available to our students, or have a look at our news page to see what we have been up to recently!

Performance Experience

Students at ACPA are offered various performing opportunities throughout the year to expand on the skills learnt in technique classes. We run two annual showcases; one for our junior school and one for our senior school. As well as this, we often take part in a number of external performances at both local and corporate events. Students get to learn new innovative choreography from resident and guest teachers, and to experience performing in some of Scotland's best theatres and venues. Many of our past students hold these as some of their fondest memories from their time at ACPA.

Examinations

Students are given the chance to take examinations and assessments in various subjects throughout the year with bbodanceUKA and Acrobatic ArtsThese allow students to concentrate on building great technique and gain nationally recognised qualifications. Some exams also allow students to gain more UCAS points to help towards further education when the time comes.

Advanced Training Programs

In 2017 we launched our Advanced Training Program. This was created to challenge young, aspiring dancers who would like a more intense level of training, which in return requires a larger commitment to dance and ACPA. This can lead to being a part of our competition and performance teams, together with many other opportunities. Places on the program are limited and available on an audition/invitation only basis. Take a look at our ATP page for more information.

Competitions

On occasion, the opportunity to take part in a national or international competition will arise. These are exciting events where students get to see the work of other schools and get the chance to excel in a more high pressure but fun environment. Students on our Advanced Training Program (ATP), may also have the chance to compete in Festival competitions across the country in solo, duo and group sections.

Associate Programs & BBO Dance Days

Students of the correct entry level grading, may be asked to audition for the bbodance monthly associate program. This is a monthly scheme based in Edinburgh which provides exceptionally able students with additional training alongside other students from across Scotland and the North of England. Auditions can also be arranged for other associate programs including Scottish Ballet and Ballet West. Classes with outstanding industry professionals provide extra growth in artistry, technique, and performance.

Twice a year bbodance hold intensive dance weekends. Associates and other students may be given the opportunity to attend these     2-3 day courses held at Elmhurst ballet school in Birmingham. This enables students to work in a class with like-minded students from all over the world in state of the art studio facilities and learn from new mentors and tutors. Students always come home full of inspiration and with lots of new friends.

Workshops, Seminars and Conventions

We try to provide as many opportunities for our students and teachers to learn from other industry professionals by attending or arranging workshops both at ACPA and further afield. We also encourage our students to attend dance conventions such as Can You Dance? and Move It.
